Mycorrhizae is defined as symbiotic between fungus and Roots of higher plants.
They are of two types:-
a) Ectomycorrhizae :fungal hyphae(Basidiomycetes)on the surface of root outside. It provide nitrogen (N2), phosphorus(P), potassium (K).
Eg. Pinus,oak,peach, Eucalyptus (POPE)
b) Endomycorrhizae:-fungal hyphae (ascomycetes) penetrate the cortical cells either forms swollen vesicles or finely branched masses called arbuscles.
- VAM(Vesicular Arbuscular Mycorrhizae) are important for phosphate absorption.
- Eg. Grasses, coffee, pepper, cardamon, woody plants.
